Dental Bridges β Replace Missing Teeth
A missing tooth affects how you eat, speak, and smile. Dental bridges restore your complete smile with a natural-looking, fixed restoration β no surgery required.
A gap from a missing tooth is more than a cosmetic concern β it can cause surrounding teeth to shift, change your bite, make chewing difficult, and lead to bone loss in the jaw. A dental bridge fills that gap with a custom-crafted prosthetic tooth (called a pontic) anchored to the natural teeth on either side, restoring both function and appearance.
What Is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth held in place by dental crowns on the adjacent teeth (called abutments). The bridge is cemented permanently, so it stays in place like your natural teeth β no removing it at night, no adhesives.
Bridges can replace one to three consecutive missing teeth and are made from porcelain, ceramic, or zirconia to match the color and shape of your natural teeth. The result is a seamless, functional restoration that looks and feels natural.
Types of Dental Bridges
Traditional bridge: The most common type. Crowns are placed on the teeth on each side of the gap, with the pontic suspended between them. Best when healthy teeth exist on both sides.
Cantilever bridge: Anchored to teeth on only one side of the gap. Used when teeth are present on just one side.
Implant-supported bridge: Anchored to dental implants instead of natural teeth. Ideal for larger gaps or when adjacent teeth should not be modified. This option preserves bone and does not require altering healthy teeth.
What to Expect When Getting a Dental Bridge
Step 1: Consultation and Treatment Planning
Your dentist examines the gap and surrounding teeth with digital X-rays or a 3D scan. Together you discuss whether a bridge, implant, or other restoration is the best fit.
Step 2: Tooth Preparation
The abutment teeth are gently reshaped to make room for the crowns that will support the bridge. Digital impressions are taken for a precise fit.
Step 3: Temporary Bridge
A temporary bridge protects your prepared teeth while the permanent bridge is crafted in the lab β typically 7 to 14 days.
Step 4: Permanent Placement
The permanent bridge is checked for fit, color, and bite alignment, then cemented into place. Your dentist makes any final adjustments for comfort.
How Much Does a Dental Bridge Cost in Scottsdale?
A three-unit dental bridge (one pontic and two crowns) in the Phoenix metro area typically ranges from $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the materials used and the complexity of the case. Implant-supported bridges cost more but offer superior longevity and bone preservation.
Most dental insurance plans cover bridges as a major restorative procedure at 50% to 80% after your deductible. We are in-network with Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, MetLife, UnitedHealthcare, and other major plans. Our Summit Savings Plan provides 15% off for uninsured patients, and CareCredit financing is available.
Dental Bridge vs. Dental Implant β Which Is Right for You?
Both bridges and implants are excellent solutions for missing teeth. The best choice depends on your specific situation.
A bridge is a good option when you want to avoid surgery, need a faster solution (typically completed in 2 visits), or when the adjacent teeth already need crowns. It does require modifying the teeth on either side of the gap.
A dental implant is the preferred long-term option when possible because it preserves jawbone, does not require altering adjacent teeth, and can last a lifetime with proper care. However, it requires minor surgery and a healing period of 3 to 6 months.

Dental Bridges β Frequently Asked Questions
With proper care, dental bridges typically last 10 to 15 years or longer. Regular dental checkups, daily flossing under the bridge, and avoiding hard foods help extend the lifespan.
A three-unit bridge typically ranges from $2,000 to $5,000. Most insurance plans cover a portion. We also offer CareCredit and our Summit Savings Plan for uninsured patients.
Both are excellent options. Implants preserve bone and do not require modifying adjacent teeth. Bridges are faster and do not require surgery. Your dentist will recommend the best option for your situation.
Yes. After a short adjustment period, most patients eat normally. Avoid very hard or sticky foods that could damage the bridge.
Use a floss threader, super floss, or water flosser to clean under the pontic daily. This prevents plaque buildup and keeps supporting teeth and gums healthy. Our hygienists will demonstrate the technique at your appointment.
